I have been coming to this bakery for the past 5 years and every time I visit, I am blown away by the variety of bakery items, the beautiful decor and care that is put into everything they make. They make wonderful seasonal drinks too! During the colder months they usually have a mushroom danish that is to die for. If you like a savory pastry then I encourage you to try it. Year round, the chocolate croissant, cardamom buns and ham and cheese croissant are my go to. If it’s lunch time, check out their refrigerated section. The tarragon chicken salad is so yummy! Their cakes and pies will have you drooling while you wait to check out. 10/10 my favorite bakery in Birmingham, AL. Love you guys!

I was in Birmingham on a work trip and heard about the elfin cottage on the hill that made the most sublime pastries.... so I took an Uber from downtown. Driving through the idealic neighborhood was a prelude to the experience that is the Continental Bakery. The bakery is a house with trees growing on the front that really makes you feel like your in an elfin market. The 'elves' are very knowledgeable and patient as i was a newcomer... the regulars moved through to get their go to's with the ease of fairies on a light wind. I selected the rare cardamom cinnamon rolls ... this is a true artisinal bakery in every way. The rolls are sooo fresh, light, flaky, and sweet. I was honnored to meet the new owner David G. who gave me a quick lesson on cardamom and the process in making such a delicately delicious pastry. When I return to Birmingham for the opening of the Southtown development (I did the branding) I will schedule an morning to go by and enjoy a moment 'experiencing' the magic that is Continental Bakery! #elfinmagic

Very clean and welcoming employees waved at me at the door. Super comfortable atmosphere with sweets, breads, cheeses and sandwiches as far as I can see. Everything looked fresh even though I came in the afternoon. Very nice bakery perfect for the scenery here at Mountain Brook. It was like a bakery shop in Europe. Definitely brought back some memories well done. Shortbread Cookies tasted good.

I was raised in Europe and was so excited to get some good bread and croissants that reminded me of growing up there. The sourdough bread met all of my expectations, and took me back to my childhood memories. The almond and Nutella croissants were amazing, and much better than what we had on our recent travels to Europe (at a French bakery). All was also husband and adult daughter approved. Did have a line, but it moved very quickly.

Continental Bakery is a gem! The pastries taste fresh and homemade, and the bread is some of the best I’ve ever had. The place has a warm, European-style atmosphere and the staff is welcoming and friendly. Great spot to relax with coffee and a sweet treat. I will definitely be coming back again.

After reading all the negative reviews on this place, I was hesitant on visiting but SO glad we did!!! People are miserable and always looking for something to complain about. The coffee and pastries were absolutely delicious. And the vibe in there is perfect. Could the staff have been nicer? Sure? I guess? But we all can. The man that helped us was very kind and for me personally, I don’t expect Disney World service when I’m ordering a croissant and a latte. But maybe that’s just me. Give people grace. Prices were reasonable too! Overall great experience.

I love this place so so much. It has the coolest atmosphere. It has a European type vibe and it's extremely cozy. They have coffee and the BEST baked goods. We got coffee, a lemon bar, and a strawberry cheesecake croissant. It was very good. I will say, my pastry wasn't warmed, but I didn't ask and it was still very good.

Oh wow, what a spectacular Bakery in the gorgeous Old English District. Sit on the sidewalk or take a gorgeous walk with your bakery treat and coffee/tea. Shortbread cookies, artist breads, cakes, pies, and a wide assortment of freshly baked treats. You can get a sandwich as well and also get refrigerated artisan soups to go. This is such a wonderful bakery!

Everything I’ve ever had was incredibly fresh and all of the retail workers I’ve interacted with as well as all the cafe and kitchen workers have been very friendly and helpful. There’s nothing like an amazing warm baguette or loaf of Challah. My recommendation is the Queenie- have it heated for a few seconds. It’s super soft and buttery and the perfect mix of a croissant style bread with sweet and savory breakfast. One item not always listed is a house made hot chocolate. Just ask for it. The strawberry matcha with their homemade strawberry mixture is delightfully refreshing. I would also recommend trying anything that is an item that might be seasonal such as the squash galette. The conecuh sausage and cheese scone, warm apple cider donut, any coffee drink with the house made toasted pecan syrup or house made chai, southwestern corn tarte, sesame noodles, and Brunswick stew are also wins in my book. (Honorable mention is the warm brown butter bourbon pecan bread pudding with vanilla gelato served in the cafe or a piping hot pizza straight from the oven)
